The furnace set includes a MIKROSHA - 15 - 8 - SCh generator unit and a melting unit with connecting cables. In the version for melting non - ferrous metals, the melting unit is equipped with a graphite crucible manufactured in Chelyabinsk. Non - ferrous metals are very poorly heated in a magnetic field of low frequency, therefore, a graphite crucible is heated by an alternating magnetic field at the focus of the inductor. Graphite behaves in this sense almost like a metal, i. e. absorbs field energy. In addition, graphite is neutral towards non - ferrous metals. Steel cannot be melted in such a crucible; it dissolves and absorbs carbon. For steel, corundum, chamotte and other crucibles are used.
